The phoenix and me

Mandy Dessent ceramic sculpture, woman rising serenely on the back of a phoenix

It was my friend Mandy Dessent who broke the news to me about the fire on the morning of August 2nd. I'm glad it was her gentle voice on the end of the phone delivering the news so tenderly because it is a moment I will never forget.

Mandy made something for me. She said it came in a dream. She saw me, riding on the back of a phoenix, so serene, a blade of grass in my hand, flying up and away out of the blackened mill.

I'm crying as I write. A beautiful vision the she made real out of clay and one that over the last few weeks has helped me keep my peace.

It's amazing what a gesture like this can do, a gesture of creativity and kindness. It has given me so much strength.

Ā It was an unfortunate thing that happened but I don't feel unlucky. I feel blessed beyond belief.

Up, up and away!

Thank you Mandy x

What a lovely piece, and I have not a doubt in my mind that you will rise and flourish like the phoenixā€¦..especially now that you have your brand new laser cutter. C x
